Endorse This: Lincoln Chafee’s Final Pitch To Women

Lincoln Chafee dropped out of the presidential race Friday — but he still got in one last great piece of absurdity, in his speech to the Democratic Women’s Leadership Forum.

“Since today is all about women’s leadership, it reminds me of one of my favorite Greek plays — Lysistrata,” he said, with the audience laughing as he went into some very risqué territory.

Chafee further explained this reference, and how it related to his political cause of world peace: “Now in that play a group of women, fed up with the warmongering of their husbands, agree to — and how do I say this appropriately, withhold their favors — until peace returns. And it worked! They ended the Peleponnesian Wars!”

The key moment is at the 2:25 mark above. You’ll find yourself asking one question: Why couldn’t he have been at just one more debate, so he could’ve said this on national television?

And oh, when Chafee first came onstage the announcer mispronounced his name.
